Especially in autumn when the days are getting perceptibly shorter and the sun often remains covered by fog we feel quite listless. The daily chores we usually cope with easily are regarded as a burden. If this feeling becomes a permanent stage, it is high time to do something about it. First step: search for the reasons. “Mostly, the reasons are quite harmless”, says Professor Dr. Wilfred Nix in the German women’s magazine FÜR SIE (issue of 09/20/05). “In about 15 percent of the cases, however, a chronic exhaustion goes back to organic diseases“, knows the assistant medical director at the Neurologische Universitätsklinik (neurological university hospital) in Mainz. This includes, for example, infections, Diabetes mellitus, intestinal and stomach problems or an underactive thyroid gland. A health check will shed light on it. |
However, often lacking or disturbed night’s rest is the most frequent cause of tiredness throughout the day. The reasons for it are varied. “Those who regularly eat or watch TV in bed prevent the body from programming itself to sleep“, according to Professor Wilfred Nix. But unresolved conflicts of the everyday life as well as sumptuous meals, couch-potato life instead of sports and an unhealthy lifestyle with too much alcohol and cigs keep you awake, as they make your metabolism sluggish. Permanent lack of sleep, however, is a risk to health. It weakens the body’s defences and makes it prone to illnesses. |
The countermeasure is simple, but requires discipline: a lot of fresh fruit, vegetable and proteins combined with fitness training like jogging, for example – but of course also “islands of relaxation” in everyday life as, for instance, a Softub whirlpool is offering.
